My SpringCard PC/SC reader doesn’t seem to work at all on Windows. What should I do?

First thing to do is to install it properly and check that the “Smart Card” service is up and running. This is explained on our PC/SC installation guide. Now, if this doesn't solve your problem, please consult the Windows PC/SC troubleshooting page on our blog.

How can I know for sure that my PC/SC reader is properly installed on Windows?

Put a card on the reader, and use our PC/SC Diagnostic tool (from the "Quickstart for PC/SC" package, on our main website) to send "FFCA000000" : the card should answer its serial number, proving that you can communicate with it.

How can I send a command to a card, with my SpringCard PC/SC reader?

Please download and install our PC/SC Diagnostic tool from our Quickstart for PC/SC package. Launch the program, put a card on your reader, double-click on the corresponding line, and enter your APDU. The card's answer should print on the bottom.

How to get information from the reader, i.e its serial number

You can get some information from the reader, as its vendor name, product name, serial number, product version etc by sending the appropriate sequences as listed in the documentation on § 3.4.2 Obtaining information on reader and slot available here: http://files.springcard.com/pub/pmd841p-fb.pdf
